How I lost 15 Kilos, 33 lbs !

What I did to lose 15 kilos in 3 months!

A lot of people have asked me how I lost weight. That is a very interesting question because there is no specific answer to it. Losing weight was really and truly the result of a lifestyle change and not more. I have simply changed the way I eat and I have also exercised regularly. In addition I have changed my mindset and educated myself about health nutrition and fitness.

As I mentioned in my last post I have started my weight loss journey in December 2014 –Yes it was a personal New Year’s resolution. My goal was to lose 15 Kilos by May 2015. Fortunately, I was ahead of time and reached that goal by March 2015, which I was very proud of.

When I started my weight loss journey I was living in Germany away from my friends and family, I also worked 40 hours a week. However living by myself helped me to change the way I eat because I was in charge of what kind of foods are in the house and was no longer tempted to eat unhealthy foods. I also signed up for a gym near my area. I committed myself to go to the gym 4-5 times a week, which was very hard, considering my hectic schedule. However I made sure that I find time to exercise which has helped me to reach my goals even quicker. I set myself  realistic goals every 10 days and weighted myself every 10 days to measure my progress.

There are 4 massive elements that have contributed to my weight loss which were, Healthy eating / eating regularly, Exercise and Fitness, Finding inspiration, Getting educated about healthy eating.  I will discuss all these 4 things that helped me to lose weight in depth.

I am not a nutritionist or a fitness specialist but this is simply how I lost weight. I hope this can inspire and motivate you to life a healthy lifestyle :)

 Before and After :) January 2015 - July 2015

Healthy eating / eating regularly

One of the major factors that contributed to my weight loss was definitely my healthy diet.

A healthy diet contributes up to 80 % to someone’s weight loss journey and the other
20 % consists of exercise.

Therefore I made sure that my diet consisted of a significant amount of proteins, veggies and carbohydrates. My weekly routine consisted of low carb days and high carb days, which helped me to manipulate my body and burn fat quicker.
I did reduce my intake of carbs but did not completely eliminate them.

I also made sure that my meal portions are small but would still be filling and satisfying.Eating regularly was also a key factor in order to make sure that there is enough food in my system. I committed myself to eat small snacks and meals every 3-4 hours, which as a result boost my
metabolism, and burned fat quicker.

I ate up to 4-5 times a day. Yes, it might sound like a lot but I needed to do that to make sure that my body is burning as much fat as it could.

Keeping myself hydrated was also a big factor. I was cutting out all fizzy drinks and juices, and replaced them with water and green tea. I drunk up to 2 litres of water every day and up to 3-4 cups of green tea every single day.

Exercise and Fitness

Exercise and fitness was something that was completely new to me. I have never really exercised in the past, which as a result made exercising very difficult for me. However I refused to give up and visit the gym regularly and learnt new exercise techniques by watching Youtube videos. Exercise was something that I needed to adjust to but it had  a big impact on my weight loss journey. It taught me what our beautiful bodies can do and how effective exercise is for the human body.

Finding inspiration

In order for me to even start this weight loss journey, I wanted to find inspiration to motivate and encourage myself that I CAN DO THIS. Therefore I have found inspiration on social media such as Youtube, Instagram, and Facebook. Youtube was great because I watched people that lost up to 20-25 kilos, which has inspired me and made me believe that if they can do it I can do it too.

Youtubers such as Scola Dondo had a big impact on me and is definitely someone that has inspired me throughout my weight loss journey. I also found inspiration from Chris and Heidi Powell which are qualified personal trainers and also TV personalities that work together to transform peoples life's by helping them to lose weight. In addition I found inspiration by watching people that go through the same journey as me on social media, which motivated me not to give up and to stay committed.

Getting educated about healthy eating

Educating myself about nutrition and healthy eating, has changed the way I eat and has also helped me to understand how the human body works. I educated myself by buying books on fitness and healthy eating and I also tried to educate myself by watching videos on Youtube about healthy and unhealthy foods.  I really needed that information to change the way I see food and change the way I eat, which as a result has helped me with my weight loss.

I hope these information helped you guys in terms of what changes can be made in order to drop weight and live a healthy lifestyle. IF I CAN DO IT , you can definitely do it :)
